The 39 Steps
By John Buchan
Adapted by Patrick Barlow
Directed by Trevor Lundy 2020
Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced who-dun-it for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This two-time Tony® and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of four), an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers, and some good old-fashioned romance!
In The 39 Steps, a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she’s a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called “The 39 Steps” is hot on the man’s trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale!
A riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft, The 39 Steps amounts to an unforgettable evening of pure pleasure!
Originally scheduled for April, we initially postponed "The 39 Steps" when all arts organizations were asked to lockdown due to the global pandemic.
With the immediate future of live events still in question, it is now necessary to officially cancel this production .
On behalf of the CCT Board of Directors, we wish to thank all the cast and crew members who worked very hard on this hilarious production. We would also like to thank our 3 sponsors who supported us through this entire process: Mike Paugh CFP, IG Wealth Management, Danielle Eaton of Brook PR & Social Media and Jeremy Youngward of Retro Sound & Collectibles.
It is only through partnerships with community sponsors like these that we can continue to offer high quality community theatre to the East Kootenays.
Cranbrook Community Theatre is currently looking at opportunities to offer performances and other content in a socially distant and responsible format.
